One of the most popular and cosmopolitan beaches of Crete is just 9 km from Chania. Agia Marina, in the Municipality of Nea Kydonia, is a beach with very fine sand which stretches for more than 2 km. It is one of the most organized beaches of Chania – and the whole county – with lifeguard services and organized tourist facilities, facilities for swimmers and a variety of water sports (windsurfing, water skiing, etc.). The beach of Agia Marina is ideal for families with children as the water is shallow and warm, considered absolutely safe. Opposite the beach of Saint Marina stands the islet of Agioi Theodori or Thodorou, which hosts the protected wild goats of Crete known as kri-kri.
