Corfu ( Kerkyra)

Corfu belongs to the group of Ionian Islands (Corfu, Paxos, Lefkas, Kefalonia, Ithaka, Zakynthos, Kythira) and this is the second largest after Cephalonia.

Located on the Adriatic sea port and a short distance from the mainland and the Albanian coast where the waters get the Corfu sea name known in the north as Cape St. Stephen (only 2 km).

This is the famous island of Corfu, endowed by nature with picturesque landscapes, fascinating coves, long sandy beaches, pine forests, cypresses. Archaeological sites, castles, monasteries, churches, museums, exquisite architecture in the capital and villages in the hinterland and excellent tourist infrastructure have given the island a cosmopolitan character and have made known throughout the world.

Capital of Corfu is the beautiful homonymous city. The Old Town has a Venetian urban layout built between two fortresses and romantic character: Paved walkways, beautiful squares and neoclassical buildings, churches and historical monuments. The New Town has a good layout and stretches back to the Old.

The streets of Corfu, which consist of  very picturesque alleys and cobbled streets are highly recognizable and have a special character.

Corfu combines Venetian and medieval architecture to deliver a very special character. The most picturesque square is the square of Kremasti with an ornate stone well, while the labyrinthine streets can confuse you a bit if you are with a rental car, but Corfu citizens  are very polite and friendly, so  they will help you find your way with their distinctive singing accent.

The Esplanade Square is the largest square in Corfu and one of the largest in Europe.

Ermones: The Ermones beach surrounded by lush steep hills and is ideal for diving as there operates a diving center.

Paleokastritsa Paleokastritsa has fantastic beaches with crystal clear waters, sand and pebbles.

Kavos: It is the most popular beach, well organized with great sand and shallow crystal waters.

Arillas: 35 km from the town of Corfu, lies the beautiful beach of Arillas 2 km. Of fine sand which is protected from winds by two small peninsulas.

Agios Stefanos: In Corfu there are two beaches named Agios Stefanos. One is located in the northwest of the island and is known as Avliotes. It is a popular, charming and sandy beach that has been awarded the blue flag. The other is located in the Northeast and is a beautiful beach filled with pebbles. From there you can rent a boat to explore the island.

Sidari: It has one of the most beautiful beaches of the Ionian Sea with white cliffs and turquoise waters and is renowned for the famous “Canal d ‘Amour” or “the Canal of Love”.
