Gerakini beach Halkidiki: This beach lies on the magnificent bay of Gerakini, 13 km south of Poligiros, the main town of Halkidiki. The beach is set among an outstandingly beautiful landscape of hills covered with pine trees that grow right down to the beach side. There is an abandoned mine at one end, a throw back to the days when the tiny village was a small community of mine workers. It was not until the 1960s that the beach became popular as a tourist resort. Today, the area attracts thousands of holidaymakers every year. Sunbathing and dining out in one of the taverns are the most favorable activities there. You will also find many accommodations options like hotels, bungalows and camping sites for teh more adventurous types. Source: www.greeka.com
